We like karaoke. We love The Beatles. My mother and I have made it our mission to sing the entire catalog of Beatles karaoke songs (all 145) in one year - 2012.

A milestone reached and passed

That’s right boys and girls! Mom and I have less than 100 Beatles songs left! Amazing, right? Well I think so.

On to the songs! First up we sang Any Time At All. All you gotta do is call, and I’ll be there.

Next song up was She Loves You, yeah yeah yeah!

There was some discussion about the next song, While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Some people thought we had already sang this one, but I’m pretty sure we hadn’t. If we had, oh well, we did it again!

The last Beatles song we did was I’m Happy Just to Dance With You. The funny thing is, neither Mom nor I like to dance.

UPDATE!! I was just looking at the list of songs we have left to sing and I found an error. A song that we sang Saturday (I’m Happy Just to Dance With You) is also listed as Happy Just to Dance with you. So this means, we only have 97 to go!

Here Comes the Irish

That’s right! In case you live under a rock or never see a calendar, Saturday was St. Patrick’s Day. So how did we celebrate? Singing Beatles songs of course!

First up Mom and I sang Here Comes The Sun followed by Lady Madonna.

When we sang I Saw Her Standing There we had people dancing! I couldn’t believe it!!
Our last song of the evening was I Am The Walrus. Goo goo g’joob!

Happiness is Singing the Right Words

It was a yucky Saturday and there weren’t as many karaoke singers as usual. So Mom and I took full advantage of this fact and sang as many songs as we could.

We started with Happiness is a Warm Gun because, in my opinion, this is like 4 different songs crammed into one awesome song. I needed to be slightly more sober than usual to sing this one.

Next up was Can’t Buy Me Love which was a lot of fun to sing. I was a little surprised that we hadn’t done this one yet.

We followed that one with I’ve Just Seen a Face, which is becoming one of my favorite songs. I just love it and it’s fun to sing.

Our last Beatles song was It Won’t Be Long. The entire time I was seeing the movie Across the Universe play in my head. If you are a Beatles fan and you haven’t seen this movie stop reading this and watch it.

Helter Skelter

So, I didn’t write a post for last Saturday’s song because, well, I couldn’t remember what we sang. From what I hear, that’s probably a good thing. Mom and I sang Helter Skelter and it was pretty bad. Apparently my microphone was off half the time (thank god) and we screwed up the words (even though we were reading them!). We’ll just say that we were feeling no pain that night and leave it at that.

The BeatlesSo this past Saturday we managed to sing two more songs. First up was You’re Going to Lose That Girl. That’s another one of my favorites. Every time I hear it I can actually see the part in Help! where they are singing this song. “What is that buzzing?” “It was you buzzing! You naughty boy!”

The other song we managed to belt out was When I’m Sixty Four. That’s such a cute song!

Short & Sweet

Don't Let Me Down (The Beatles song)

The bar was pretty packed on Saturday night with two birthdays so we squeezed in as many Beatles songs as we could. That ended up being only 2. First was Don’t Let Me Down suggested by our buddy Mike. The second one was Back in the USSR.

I Wanna Be Famous

Doesn’t everybody?

After a fun-filled day of gambling, we returned to our second home to belt out more Beatles favorites!

Help! (song)

We started off softly with Yesterday which I believe was requested by our friend John (plenty of yummy drinks were consumed so you’ll have to forgive my foggy memory). After that came Help! which surprised me a little. I could have sworn we had already done that one, but I keep track (well, sort of) of all the songs we do.

Our friend Joel was in town (or should I say in the country) and asked us to sing And I Love Her and honestly, how could we refuse? We couldn’t so we didn’t.

Our final song of the night (morning) was Drive My Car which is a really fun song to sing… beep beep beep beep yeah!

Birthday

Last week, we asked our friend Mel if she had a favorite Beatles song that she’d like us to sing. Well, she couldn’t think of the name of the song, but she came prepared this week. Let It Be was the song she wanted so we sang it.

We had 2 birthdays in the house - Gary and Ed - so of course, we just had to sing Birthday.

Next up was the song Something. I love this song!

We finished the night with an odd one, Octopus’ Garden.

For the Benefit of our Karaoke List

Another night of karaoke Beatles fun!

The bar had new people steadily streaming in but mom and I were still able to get a handful of songs out of the way.

Our friend Geezer picked Strawberry Fields Forever as our first song of the night. He also suggested we sing Twist and Shout, so we did! It’s actually quite fitting because earlier, I had just watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on tv.

I Want to Hold Your Hand was our next check off the enormous list.

Another one of our friends, Steve, asked us to sing A Hard Day’s Night, so we obliged.

Because we’ve been singing Beatles all night, another singer, Ed, said that he wanted to sing Beatles too! He sang Lovely Rita, after Gonzo tried to give the mic to mom and I (no, that doesn’t count for us). Next we sang Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite.

For our last song of the night, we did Hello Goodbye, a rather fitting song for the last one.

Do You Want to Know a Secret?

Well, it’s not much of a secret. Mom and I put a little dent in our huge karaoke list.

We started the night off with Do You Want To Know A Secret? The bar was pretty packed and I’ll bet that the majority of the people there had never even heard of this one.

Next up was Nowhere Man, followed by Penny Lane.

Our final song of the night was Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. That is a fun one to sing!
